Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood – 19
Brett | August 11, 2009 | 2:19 amLet me say this, if you have had any doubts about Brotherhood being a good series, then please watch this episode. If it can’t cast those doubts away then I don’t know if the show ever will. If you can’t enjoy this episode, then Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood just isn’t your cup of tea.

Liked:
+ Roy Mustang being the complete badass he is.
+ Hawkeye’s feelings for Mustang are further revealed. If their relationship plays out further, I can’t wait to see what happens.
+ I am glad Al made a stand to protect Hawkeye, it really defined his character and place in the show.
+ The episode shined without Edward making an appearance at all until the very end briefly, the humor, action, and drama were still there. In no way am I saying I don’t like Edward, he is actually one of my favorite characters in anime, but it is nice to see a show have a great supporting cast of characters.
Disliked:
Nothing
Final Verdict: 10/10
This has been the best episode yet. The show has finally deviated from the first series and I feel should be a separate entity completely. While it will continue to be compared to the first series, I am sure because of its place in people’s hearts and the fact it is almost the same cast of characters, I feel it shouldn’t. To me this episode explains why I personally watch anime, it was exciting, filled with action, and kept me on the edge of my chair. I haven’t been this pumped watching and waiting for a show since watching Gurren Lagann a few years ago.

Being a follower of the manga, I already knew this is where the awesomeness starts, but Mustang was just too GAR in animated form. GARness overwhelming!
Agree fully. As TJ said, I too have read the manga (although I stopped when I learned of this series being made I think at around 48). Now I already knew what was going to happen, yet this episode was still intensely awesome. This episode is the one that puts this series over the original for me. Mustang owned it. It’s going to get sooooo good. That being said, this series has almost caught up to where I am in the manga. Maybe 2 more episodes.
It’s a shame Brotherhood spent the first 12-13 episodes running through all the stuff from the first series, because it’s really been fantastic once it struck out on its own. Mustang was sorta bleh up to now, but this was complete GARness! I have been won over.
Now see, I love reading manga and keeping up with a series I enjoy, but I am glad I didn’t with Fullmetal Alchemist because I feel like every episode is fresh and new, I never know what is going to happen. I’m not saying that knowing what is going to happen is a bad thing, it just seems like it might lessen the intensity of an episode.
That’s why I stopped at chapter 48, because I want the episodes to be new too. a few more eps (the anime is around 39 or something like that…..I think).
I’d have to say that is good thinking! I know I have the will power to wait and not spoil it. xD
