Evangelion 2.0: excitement builds

The base problem here is all have severe mental problems. I think. Emphases ‘base’.
Like many people, I started watching anime seriously when Evangelion was out on VHS. (That was ‘99 in NA, i believe) But the last 4 episodes where so confusing/convoluted/stupid that I was all “WTF”. So when D:R and EoE came out, I was happy. But still very confused. You know, the whole “Hey, let’s rewrite the ending” thing. Which didn’t help. At all.
Fast forward to 2008, and Rebuild of Evangelion 1.0: You are (Not) Alone is released. Many (myself included) thought this was going to be no more than another Directors-Platinum-Rei-WTF-Special Edition Eva release. Until I watched. OMG. OMGOMGOMG!!!!!1!!one!
I was impressed.
What changes they made, IMHO, where excellent. Especially Ramiel.
Ramiel must have been an art student in college. She knows her shapes.
So therefor, I have been waiting for the 2nd part 2.0: You can (not) Advance. Finally, on the 27th June, It was released in theatres in Japan.
So, this is what I’ve seen so far:
#1: Asuka. Her name has been changed. Sohryu Asuka Langley is now Shikinami Asuka Langley. This makes me think of Shigofumi for some reason. I dunno.
#2: Complete new story: Ah well, I’m not too worried. I’m here for robots, mind-rapes and sweet, sweet anime ladies. As long as the story isn’t COMPLETE ass-balls (read: FFX-2), I’ll be happy.
#3: The new Eva Pilot. Internet, meet Makinami Mari Illustrious, Eva uniot 05 pilot.
Mmm. Tasty. DO WANT.
I declare that she is the CUTEST thing ever. I know, Rei and all, but DAMN. Glasses. I have a thing for glasses. And purple-ish hair. I also like how she just was thrown in. We all saw a small 3 second clip of here at the end of 1.0, but had assumed it was Mana, from the GoS games. More will be learned of her after the subbed versions are available.
#4: Unit 05 itself.
Choke on this, Bardiel. AHAHAHAHAHAHA
No explanation needed. IT just rocks. Add this, with Mari piloting… ooh, it’s so divine.
So, with a goos sub being only weeks away, Just wait, and Review will be done right here, by me.
And with that, delicious Eva: it comes again.
Yeah, the first Rebuild of Evangelion movie was pretty good. It’s a lot more exciting when the beam cannon firing angel can change shapes lol. Hopefully we’ll all get to see 2.0 soon.
Reminds me that I need to watch the new Eva. But then again the hype died when I rewatched the old one for the fourth time years ago, and I came to realize that everything that came afterwards was only to keep that overmarketed franchise alive.
We’ll see. Once I feel emo, I’ll give it a try.
Yes, I can’t wait also. Rebuild 1.0 was a somewhat boring recap, I am excited for new material. Eva 05 looks pretty sweet too, and I agree with your statements on the new pilot. She tops Rei and Asuka in my mind easily.
