Tora Dora! Episode 6
nekosasu | November 7, 2008 | 9:52 amAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
First off, sorry for that loud scream up there. I just finished watching the episode and I’m in my usual frantic OMGLOLWTF mode.
As for why I am posting one day late, well… I came home from Venice at 3 AM Wednesday, in the middle of Election Night… which I watched until 8 AM. Severely messed up my sleep pattern, and I slept through TD, woke up in time for Hyakko but I couldn’t access the stream anyway so duh. Then I tried to deprive myself of sleep so I can regain a halfway sane sleep rythm again…
But this post isn’t about that one day trip, but I’ll post in the course of the next week about it, promise. I took a lot of pictures, again!
So, let’s talk about Tora Dora, shall we?
No summary this time, since you guys probably already had your infos from somewhere else, so here’s just my usually commentary.
Err, where am I going to start, anyway? Ah, let’s start with Ami. This episode promised to be all about her, somewhat – and I really hated it at the beginning. My opinion about Ami was initially “man, she’s such a facetious bitch I hate her – but that’s what this anime needed, a catalyst”. But I guess this episode was made for us Ami haters, right? Yes. Because I hate her a lot less now. “I understand where she’s coming from now, but she’s still the weak bitch which makes this series much more interesting,” I guess.
I mean, look. Ami took a break from modeling because of one meek “stalker”. She didn’t want to bother her parents and transferred into our main protagonists’ school because of one meek “stalker”. And she put up this whole Mrs Nice Girl façade for everyone so that one meek “stalker” won’t catch her off-guard in her usual elitist ego trip? SERIOUSLY, HOW WEAK IS THAT.
Sure, she tried to protect her modeling career, but hey IT’S JUST THAT LITTLE BOY THERE, IDIOT. Going to such great lengths for such little fry is seriously pathetic and weak. Taiga is much more dangerous than him! Heck, odds are that you could slit his throat and no fucking soul would ever care about him. And I believe Ami to be fully capable of doing so, like the backstabbing bitch she is…. or seems to be…
Actually, at some point I even thought the entire “stalker” story was just part of some kind of bigger scheme, like… she could just have hired that guy to have something to talk about, and to earn the pity of Ryuuji and the others. But destroying a camera, kicking its owner, and threatening him definitely does not corroborate with that idea. With such people, it’s hard to find out if she’s genuinely serious or if she doesn’t have some kind of hidden agenda… YHBT? lololol
Anyway, it took Taiga’s little input to make Ami realize that she’s in fact a vain, facetious idiot. But she involuntarily shot herself in the foot with that, too.
Let’s remember the end of episode 5, where Taiga grins mischievously after finding out that Ami is hiding from fame. Now in this episode, when Taiga invites coerces Ami to come to her apartment (“mansion”? don’t make me laugh NB: I’m trying to make a joke on Taiga, obviously. I know what マンション means.) to hide from the “stalker” kiddie, she clearly is wearing off Ami’s patience by making her listen/sing to old songs for six straight hours. It’s pretty clear that Taiga wanted to make use of Ami’s fear of revealing her true self to blackmail her. Ah well, gotta find a different tactic now.
Speaking of which, I find Taiga much less tsundere lately, but is it perhaps because she’s now getting more and more deredere for Ryuuji? At first she was so overly tsun it annoyed me, but now I am missing a little of it. But of course, it shall not remain so: the end of this episode poured an entire lake of oil onto the flames. Now wasn’t that Ami making some serious advances towards Ryuuji there! And Taiga appearing right behind them! Waaaahahahahaa! (that’s where my scream in the beginning came from, too.)
Actually, where are we standing right now, in the middle of the season? Let’s see…
Ryuuji likes Minori, but is definitely getting closer to Taiga.
Taiga likes Yuusaku, but is definitely going to love Ryuuji.
Ami is falling in love with Ryuuji (or so it seems, at least.)
We don’t know Minori’s preference, but I believe she’s too dense to want a bf anyway. That or she’s actually shy… Why, she might even like Ryuuji in the end? But Minori = shy? Does not compute, does it…?
Yuusaku, who used to like Taiga, seems to be after Sumire now. (The student council prez.) But it doesn’t really matter.
I can’t be arsed to make one of those fancy relation charts right now, but it’s pretty clear that this is going to be a very interesting love triangle (if not rectangle, if Minori gets involved as well).
How things will be going from here? Taiga most likely will act as if she didn’t care about Ryuuji, but her jealous nature will still push her to rival Ami. After all, Ryuuji is her former servant dog, and he needs to make her food, etc… excuses and pretenses, as always. Ami, unless she has some hidden intentions, will court Ryuuji because she thinks he’s interested in her real self (whatever it might be), and also for the shits and giggles of Taiga’s rage. I’d be also interested to see Minori make some moves on Ryuuji too, because that would put him in a very difficult situation where he has to make a difficult decision: Taiga, Ami or Minori, his current crush?
…of course, if this story is going to end after one season only, we will have an obvious conclusion: Taiga. If not, all of these people will remain in a tense status quo until there will be a conclusion. But I hope this will not have any sequels and be milked like the SnS/ZnT-franchise. I know it’s definitely not as popular, but popularity often plays no role in that.
Ah, what would my srs TD (Tl;Dr of course) posts be without Minori!
Oh god, Minorin, Minorin! ore no warai no megami-sama! (weeaboo!) She always brings me to tears. I have to admit, she is absolutely crazy in the head, but she’s equally awesome and funny. I don’t think this anime would have been any interesting without her exhilarating presence. A couple of minutes into the episode, I was already gasping for breath – Minorin and Taiga’s surprise attack was simply too hilarious! xD
But that action, however, proves that she’s jealous of Ami because she doesn’t get fat. That’s why she brings some kind of low-calorie bento the next day… eh, Minorin, YOU on a DIET? Either way, here’s some advice: STOP EATING BUCKETS OF PUDDING FIRST!!!!
Ah well, wish she’d get more screen time. T_T Anyway, next episode seems to have the romcom-typical swimming lesson/mizugi element. I suppose Ami will keep taunting Aisaka because she’s so petite? Heh.
And Inko said KWEH! this time. Didn’t even try seriously, poor thing.

Me likey. (copypasted OVER 9000x)
And if I recall the novel gave me more of “ME LIKEY!” There are some stuff skipped, but from what has been shown to me is that this episode is still going to be worth watching, and worth my… fanboyish scream DX
Man I think I’m the only one who actully likes Ami, she’s defineitly got my vote for this little love rectangle/triangle whatever the hell you want to call it, but I hope she ends up with Ryuji. So far she seems to be the most complex out of the girls, having a sort of alter ego boy do I love that, Minori and Taiga are just too predictable but you don’t really understand what’s going on in Ami’s mind, like for example the ending there, was she just teasing Ryuji? Does she actully have feelings for him? Perhaps she just wants to steal him from her enemy Taiga? Who know’s guess will just have to wait and see eh?
Yea, Minorin is the awesomes. The 3 girls are all pretty interesting and inviting in various ways, it’s hard not to love the moments. ^^ PUDDIN!
Haven’t seen any fansubs of this, but the “mansion” reference seems to suggest “manshon” was translated as “mansion” into English?
The Japanese “Manshon”, katakana version of the English “mansion” refers to a particular style of apartment building, it never actually means what we would use mansion to refer to in actual English.
@Shiro & Cyle: Oh my, such an excellent pair…………………………………….. You guys are twisted.
@Ryan: Minoriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
@Quen: I knew that, I just tried to exaggerate on that part a little bit to badmouth Taiga (you know how much I like her.) :< But yeah, I guess I should have made my intention clearer. I suck at irony :(
Thanks anyway ^^
“Oh my, such an excellent pair…………………………………….. You guys are twisted.”
Well, I have been forking out whatever I can to find out whether she does take that real kind of liking to Ryuuji FOR REAL… but based from what I have at the moment, to not have it happen seems so wrong for me XD
And this is what saved Ami from having me want to assassinate her XD
… I’d say, Ryuuji and Taiga has somehow became a catalyst for Ami’s changes, but in my personal opinion Ryuuji had a more obvious impact on her.
@Shiro: On the contrary, I believe that Taiga had a much bigger impact on her – she opened Ami’s eyes with her natural temper. She realized that Taiga incorporated everything that she had been wrongly saying about herself (being spontaneous/natural).
As such, I’d say Ami feels jealous of Taiga’s happiness and natural behavior in Ryuuji’s presence, and so she believes she could experience the same happiness and act more naturally if she was together with him.
I mean, what has Ryuuji done more than, say, Yuusaku who’s her childhood friend after all? Granted, he had his usual nonchalance to ask Ami why she put up that hooker act in front of everyone – Yuusuke never bothered asking because he already knew it all anyway. But apart from that, I don’t think he didn’t have that much contact with her yet, and the few times she met him before were mostly linked to her devious scheme.
So yeah, that’s about my doubts about her genuinely liking Ryuuji. If anything, I suppose Ami would be shallow enough to deem that long, fateful and impressive conversation in this episode reason enough to fall in love with Ryuuji, heh. XD
@nekosasu Oops, ok then =D
