So I played Yume Miru Kusuri…

nekosasu | September 15, 2008 | 10:00 pm

…and finished it yesterday. I liked it.

Sorry for the JPEG artefacts in the screenshots. Video quality of the OP wasn’t that great, and Fraps isn’t really the best capping tool either. Hope there aren’t any all too bad spoilers here.

Kirimiya Mizuki. My senpai. Cup size too big for my tastes.

The three stories were pretty interesting, though Mizuki’s was the one I liked the least. The story was a little bit farfetched, I guess – I mean, the trip to Hong Kong, and the event there happened a bit too fast. Or… perhaps I’m simply not fond of her big bags, duh. On my first run, I hit her bad end, but I really didn’t care enough to get her good end – So I went for Nekoko. After Nekoko, I fast-forwarded through the story to get Mizuki’s good end after all for the sake of completeness… and it was too cheesy IMO. So, I liked her the least. Good thing I caught her route first.

Cait Sith Nekoko. Self-proclaimed fairy, crazy loli catgirl.

Nekoko’s story was very wild and random, a bit empty at times, but I found her a lot more entertaining than Mizuki… in many ways. Blame my inner lolicon. I think wouldn’t have liked her so much had she not been a loli… She was a lil bit funny in the head, I didn’t like her randomness very much; and she lacks character. I found her real self more attractive, (as you know, I have a weakness for introverted girls… Hisui~) but I could only enjoy her at the end… I did manage to get her good end right away though, and it was great.

Shiraki Aeka. My favorite. Cute girl, bullied by everyone. Bastards.

But just as I thought I found my match, I played Aeka’s route. Awesome. She’s sooo cute, not as stupid as Nekoko, somewhat introverted as well <3, and she doesn’t do drugs. (And I liked her H-scenes the best :V)
I liked Aeka’s story much better. I won’t say I was really moved to tears, but it got quite emotional at times, and I was pretty much filled with rage. Perhaps because I could relate to her feelings through my own past experience with mobsters, though it was by far not as bad as in her case… And I just can’t tolerate bullying at all. Though, I don’t just like her because I feel sympathy for her, but because the emotions she set free in me are much bigger than it was the case for the other girls. Bah, in the end… I just like cute, introverted girls. Figures.

Damn… I must… hug… her……

I wasn’t only raging because of the awful events in the game, but because the main guy, Kouhei, is such a dork sometimes. But then again, I guess it’s the dilemma of most stories, “if it had been me, I’d have said/done otherwise”, etc.
But my RAGE mode didn’t last much longer, because of that final event at the end. It was some kind of a ZOMGYAYFKINAWSUM moment, which made me really, really happy.

Tsubaki. My colleague at work. He’s gay, and loves Eroges. Note: He’s NOT black.

I played the English version, obviously. Translation seems okay, I didn’t encounter many flawed sentences – though, sometimes I was really annoyed by the many typos they let slip through. “attantion”, “it’s a good think”, “after I working late”, are only a few examples. Perhaps they fixed it with a patch later on (which I obviously didn’t get).

The game offered an enjoyable mix of emotion, slapstick, and H. No complaints there. I found the many self-deprecating comments in general pretty interesting, like how it made light fun of the stereotypical features of Eroges. “…it’s like one of those plot twists you get in a drama show. It’s too corny for even a novel.” Mind you, I have no experience with eroges whatsoever (yet), so I have yet to discover better ones (maybe) – I have several Minori and Key games queued for playing… Let’s hope I won’t catch a “Level 3 Porn Game Infection”.

My imouto, Aya. Of course not related by blood… See what I’m driving at? :3

YMK left me somewhat satisfied, though I’m still craving for more… only three characters to run for, and (as far as I’ve seen), no omakes or unlockable characters either, like Kouhei initially hinted to in the game… Well, I definitely wouldn’t have wanted to play an Antoinette route. I might have ended up killing her in it. But… perhaps a Sayama route, or an imouto route for some recreational “fun”? Neko, you poor excuse for a lolicon.

Now, excuse me while I play Aeka’s route again. Bawww.

C-c-c… CUTE! >_<

@ruki: It is, believe me. I bet I’ll experience something like that soon…

@zirr: I’m afraid I can’t tell you where exactly you can download it. A Google/Hongfire search might help. Perhaps you could even purchase it somewhere?

This version of Yume Miru Kusuri was localized by some US company called Peach Princess. They did the translation, which is why I was rambling about their typos in my post. Normally you’d expect some higher quality from commercial translations…
Heck, even unofficial translations to certain other games provided by translation groups/communities are much better than that.

mirror moon TLs sure seem like commercial quality compared to YMK ._. nevertheless, it was quite a fun game IIRC. I did like nekoko’s story more than Aeka’s since it seemed less predictable.
