Screw Maths. Gundam first!

nekosasu | April 17, 2007 | 6:24 pm

Heh, just as I was starting to study for tomorrow’s test paper I spontaneously thought of writing a little line about Gundam SEED Destiny. Frankly, I don’t know whether it’s my bad conscience that I’m neglecting my own blog (backed by its unpopularity and people’s ignorance), or simply my procrastination vice that’s preventing me from getting the maths done. Yet I shouldn’t spend too much time writing either, it’s not like I can waste any more time today than I already have.

I still remember those people who warned me that GSeed Destiny was a failed sequel, that it wouldn’t live up to my expectations, etc. In IRC, on many forums on the interwebz and even on my blog (one of the rare gracious people who ever dared to leave a comment here, greetz!), they all told me that in some way or another.
I watched it up to episode 7 yesterday. And I must admit I like it quite a lot so far. But then again I can’t really give an opinion, as I already am a bit influenced by all the comments I previously read (some even contained spoilers that I don’t want to disclose for now). Hadn’t it been for those, I most probably would have enjoyed the series more, because now I’m looking around for any inconsistencies in the story, character development, and animation whatsoever. It’s like I’m QCing the series now, or something like that, and I find that rather annoying.

Well, what did happen? Cagalli and Athrun a.k.a. Alex Dino head over to the plants to discuss with Chairman Durandal to discuss about preventing the misuse of the new Gundam models. And in that very moment, a group of youngsters sneaks into the army base and steals the new models – it’s about the same what happened in Gundam SEED. I don’t really mind that, at least they didn’t launch a huge-scale attack, which is somewhat a difference. One thing struck me though: how could they have entered the base that easily (they ran around in civilian clothes, what the)? There is no way ZAFT could have lowered their security measures that much after the tragedy of Yakin Due, on top of that in a military base secretly keeping the brand new Gundam Suits Gaia, Chaos and Abyss!

Well, they happened to steal the Gundams, Shinn comes out and kicks the new models’ asses with an even newer Gundam model (I’ll call it Impulse, no need for specifics), then gets his outnumbered ass kicked, Athrun picks up some random mecha (a Zaku) and helps him out, and finally, incoming reinforcements make the enemies flee. But what’s this in that battleship? Erm… Klueze (blame KAA’s for the spelling if it’s wrong)? That evil masked guy from SEED? Until now they haven’t disclosed the name and NO I will not look it up on wikipedia or the likes. But if he is, to be alive after that fatal blow Kira had dealt him during the battle of Yakin Due, he sure is a tough nut to crack, holy cow. BUT I WON’T FORGIVE HIM FOR KILLING MY BELOVED FLLAY, NEVER!!! *ahem*
And he does react the same with that Rey guy as he did with Mu La Fllaga, you know that GLGLGLGL premonition flash. Yeah, who is Rey? Klueze’s long forgotten son, I presume? Ahaha~

Well, then comes a nifty battle, quite fun and nicely done, nothing to complain about. And then, OMG the ruins Junius 7 is moving out of orbit, in direct collision course with Earth, yeah… A small group of coordinator #$%”!es did that. Now, such a huge thing is threatening to crash onto earth and wreaking havoc, and only a few reasonable people tried to blow the ruins into smaller pieces so the damage dealt to the earth wouldn’t be that important. While I very well understand the Earth Forces’ tactics to blame it onto PLANT, I still don’t get it why they at least didn’t undertake any measures to prevent the catastrophe. ZAFT already was there but faced some resistance, allright. Even still, destroying the ruins or splitting it prior to its entry into atmosphere would have been feasible, no? Oh I forgot, THERE WAS NO TIME TO ACT! Junius 7 rushed so fast towards Earth, that they couldn’t even mobilize more troops to confront this threat. Sure, I guess Earth would already fly out of the Milky Way by tomorrow if it got out of orbit…

And then, a lot of minor details I won’t bother mentioning, Athrun’s Zaku suddenly resists entry into atmosphere, although it already was damaged a lot, causing even more friction… It goes without saying that the Minerva easily intercepts the Impulse and the Zaku while they are falling, and Cagalli didn’t show much emotion while she didn’t know whether Athrun was dead or not. Okay she’s a strong-minded person but usually she’d become emo…….Aren’t they lovers, huh? She should’ve showed a bit more concern about him. At least that’s how I kept that cute and thoughtful piece of girl in mind^^;

Argh, there I go complaining. I guess I’m exaggerating a bit as well. I really don’t care much about those details as long as I’m having fun watching it, and I do enjoy GSD for now. Also, some complain about the overuse of old characters, well until now it’s only bee Athrun and Cagalli… until now… And doubting again. Thanks guys -_-
Anyway one precise scene really really made me cringe, and I’m sure they did that on purpose, those bastards! If you watched the show, I guess you’ll remember the sequence where the ruin parts of Junius 7 are crashing onto Earth, like huge atom bombs blowing up above big cities, a really apocalyptic scenario…. Well, all the time, Lacus was singing “Fields of Hope”. Crap. I already knew about that song beforehand and I listened to it quite a lot before watching SEED Destiny, but at that precise moment it had such an intense effect on me I nearly started crying, believe it or not (and then I read somewhere that it might be the only good scene of the entire series… which already spoils the fun.

I don’t want to believe that the anime sucks as badly as several people label it, at least for now, period. I still remember the time it was airing on TV, everyone was talking about GSD, anxiously waiting for the subs, going “he’s emo and she’s emo and everyone dies” and I was like “omg just STFU with your crap mecha anime”. I could check up the IRC logs from 3 years ago, actually, it sure would be funny reading what people had to say back then – anyway it was really popular. Okay it might not have lived up to everyone’s expectations but… hmm… well, I can’t really judge on that either, since I haven’t watched the entire series yet. But if it sucks, why do I still see many many people on IRC, Forums, Boards, and many other places having nicks from GSD? Sting, Lunamaria, Athrun, Alex, Kira, Stellar, Meer, etc? I don’t know, maybe it doesn’t suck after all? AAAAARGH damn school I’d rather marathon watch it now than anything. But school comes first.

So, I’ll be going back to my maths now, even if I know I’m tired as hell and that I need 1 hour of rest before starting through. Oh, evening meal. Great, this dorm sure is wicked… I just noticed, I wasted about two hours writing, editing, rewriting, reading and rereading this. It’s hard writing in Notepad I should have done it in Word -_-

And for the vector, I nearly completed it. the hair fills are a huge pain in the neck though. Too bad I have no time to make a screenshot and upload it right now. Tomorrow maybe.
Hope you enjoyed reading this, thanks for not going TL;DR, and if one or another of my opinions might be biased (I hope not?), please refrain from flaming. Seems like some reckless people are looking for fights as of recently, as if trying to increase the size of their e-pen0r…. Godspeed. Pfffff lol.

    I just finished GSD a few hours ago (after starting it last week) and enjoyed it but not as much as GS. The masked guy in GSD is not the same guy as the masked guy in GS which is easy to tell if you listen to their 2 different voices/look up their voice actors, lol

    Oh, indeed ^^; It seemed to me their voices were similar though. I usually don’t look up seiyuus, except at the end of each series (because then I want to know what other anime they’ve been in).
